Established sites are I'm afraid just as likely to remove your links as anyone else, especially if they are using one of these crappy link organizing scripts, which remove links incorrectly, plus owners change the sites, remove them etc. It is ok if you have a handfull of sites, but a pain in the bum if you have 1000's

So trade links, just not lots of links. Just my two cents.
We never saw any significant benefits at all, just the opposite.

Especially with just cross linking sites, its always been pointless from a google point of view, you link to us, we link to you, wont in our experience and the experience of anyone we've employed, help you with google in any way.

Maybe if your clever and link "a" site to "b" site to "C" site to "d" site, google *might* have been fooled, but I doubt it.

But even if it did, that has changed with the latest Panda update, low quality links and link building is now being penalized by google. Not only will it not help you, google will penalize you for it. Before you say yes this isnt low quality link building, I'm afraid it is. High quality means big, good established sites, not porn blogs with 100's of outgoing links to galleries, adverts and other sites. They are not quality link backs. They are in fact just what google calls a low quality site

A non reciprocal link back from the BBC in a news item about nylons is a quality link back, me giving you a link on a porn blog and you linking back is a low quality link.

The latest Panda update pretty much makes link building a thing of the past for SEO. Panda was rolled out on the 11th and there are loads of articles about it in the mainstream news and on search engine sites. Its worth looking at if your more interested in SEO, because anything you knew before the 11th of this month about link building for google is no longer relevant

But if it works for you then great, it just no longer works for us, we no longer do link trades. It is horses for courses, so to speak. That said I am off to the stables as I like to spend most of Friday on my horse. So have a nice day all
