Default Video Editing Software

Hi All

What packages/software are best for editing/rendering/compressing HD video on a PC? One of our new models/partners is trying to process 1080p HD video but the file sizes are HUGE (15 min video = 1GB!)

I am a Mac man and use Apple software (of course - it's the best LOL) so can't help her much.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Cheers

I have heard some cameras don't work with some editors -
However - I use a sony camera and sony editor (vegas pro 9) and get the files quite manageble - 15 mins would be around half a gig -

Hi Dyker

Oh the joys of using Macs LOL! I will pass on the advice. Simon (subams) also wrote to me. They use Premier Plus (Adobe ?) with similar results to yours

BTW what frame size and bit rate do you use?

Cheers

We use Pinnacle Studio to edit our videos and, as long as you have a decent computer, you can work on them easily.
Final result is a WMV file in our case, where 5 minutes is about 300MB

This is a brilliant programme. Its not for editing, but for compression etc.
It has a free trial

There are many combinations using Quality VBR or 2 pass CBR (which is what I use - Slower, but able to crunch a bit more out with less loss of quality -
1440 X 1080 - 6,40 M bit rate.

However, with the H 264 codek, you can now turn out a flash video in very, very good quality with much saving on file size - I know some sites are using this and perhaps it is the best way forward - I think I would too, but my cms doesn't work with flash files.
