It's really a VERY good camera...we stay here with Nikon ( because of the lenses ) but Canon is a great brand ...Congrats !

here is an exemple with a D2X

Nice picture. Nikon and Canon leapfrog each other in upgrades. My opinion is get the glass, replace the cameras when you need to. The lenses way out last the cameras and is where the real money needs to be spent.

Yes sure ....( this is Somona's hubby who's talking )
I don't make only shootings for my wife, also making macro, landscape, urban, animals etc....for different local newspapers here....
I got many bodies, and usually only use 2 of them for my common work, so a D1h and ( rarely ) a D1x ( because of the body is quite exactly like my old F5 )...the lenses are for sure the difference between a good or a bad pic...
There sre some you can easily carry everytime ( 17-55 mm, 70-300 mm, ...) but some specificaly for portraits ( 50 mm ) ....I use those bodies because all my old lenses have compatibilities with them , and I HATE the new DX format and motoring lenses....
The most important is to know excatly how to use your camera, and what are the advantages you can get with some or some lenses

I use Canon L series....a 24 to 70 f2.8 and a 70 to 200 IS f4. Pretty much covers all the focal lengths I need for glamour and such. With the MD52, the focal lengths are now the real focal lengths with no crop factor which is a real joy at 24mm.

yes ...I usually use very light lenses for studio like your 24-70 f/2.8
Here is an exemple with a 17-70 mm Sigma f/2.8 ....There is no need to crop, here, with the D300 I got the quite same resull as a D3 at 800 ISO

at 48 mm

at 31 mm

using a tripod....

I am invested in Nikon.
Thats a great Camera though!
I just upgraded to a D700 from a D300.
Cameras are just tools like a hammer.
