Default Grrrr... server issues

Hey folks,

Just a quick note to anyone that I currently have link trades or hard links exchanges/sales with, my main server is currently offline with a hard drive failure. I am working with tech support at my hosting company to get these back up and running as soon as possible and am hoping to have this accomplished by the end of the day.

On a side note, anyone have recommendations on a good VPS host(s)? I am looking at shutting down this server shortly and moving it to a few VPS accounts for SEO purposes.

Cheers!
Chris

Not quite sure what a vps is, but we have had our servers with mojo host for years and they are as good as it gets. Brad Mitchell is the guy to talk to at Mojo. I can't say enough about how good and reliable they are. Everything is backed up weekly in the event of a disaster and if you check our speed, you will see just how fast they are. I have a need for speed.

Like JS I have no idea what VPS is but we use Adult Friendly Hosting (http://adultfriendlyhosting.com/) for over nine years and I can only say that they are terrific. Their support is unbelievably good!

So what is VPS?

VPS = Virtual Private Server
Jimmy Wales says it best here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_server
Hehehe

Thanks for everyone's recommendations. Greatly appreciated.

For those of you who aren't aware of what VPS is, it stands for Virtual Private Server. Hosting companies install virtualization software on a server and then split the resources into multiple accounts, creating something akin to a mini-server. These resources, including your CPU processing power and RAM, are dedicated to your hosting account and cannot be accessed or used by others.

This hosting solution is a step up from virtual hosting accounts where your site is competing for resources with all the other sites on the same physical box and a step down from a dedicated server.

On a side note, 36 hours after the initial hard drive failure, I still do not have access to my dedicated server. I could quite possibly be with the worst hosting company ever and will definitely need to change that shortly.
