Going after the host and registrar, since they're in less than friendly jurisdictions, isn't likely to be very fruitful.

Going after the billing may garner a bit more success, but they'll just move to other options.

In my experience, strictly as an observer, the most effective deterrent is a relentless pursuit on getting the files removed from the file sharing services. If the download links go dead quickly on a continual basis, those doing the uploading tend to move on to other sites that don't aggressively get the content removed.

A service that does that kind of work for you for a reasonable price http://takedownpiracy.com/

I'd also recommend removeyourcontent.com but currently they aren't taking on new clients.

Really? I've used RYC in the past.

So TakeDownPiracy does the same thing as RYC? I'll have to check into that. I was wondering what other sites out there offered similar services.

I agree, going after the host is fruitless. I did that and they had to move about 6 times. Always found a new home.
However with billing what I would do is register and then send the admin a pm telling him you want to join with say Amazon. At some point he will have to give you his Amazon email address (or whatever is used). You then go to Amazon and say "this person is using Amazon to sell stolen content - Please shut him down."

But unless you can get them all shut down this is really only a nuisance and does nothing to slow down the pirating of content.

I have been giving this a lot of thought and I have formulated the beginning of a plan. I have only sketched it out in my head but it could work. I am not going to publish it here for reasons which have been stated in this thread and by others who have mailed me privately.

If you are interested then PM me or mail me at the address in my profile.

It may work, it may not, but what have we got to lose?

The idea to keep at least a part of this forum private has lots of sense. Jscott, why don't you create a specific section for our fight against piracy, and make it private?

I owe everyone an apology.

I have spent the last few days researching the possibilities of what we can/can't do and have drawn a blank. I can do exactly what I wanted to do, but the costs would be far higher than I expected. Also I couldn't think of a payment scheme that would work. The modus operandi I thought about would mean that everyone would benefit - even if they didn't subscribe to the service.

So, for us, it looks like a simple strategy from here on in -

a) be more vigilant via Google searches
b) get the DMCA letters out and follow up
c) report all stuff we find here (private or otherwise)

Oh and try to keep winning 6-5! On that note August is going to be -

a) the best month for www.candyleglust.com since it launched
b) the best month for www.amazingastrid.com since 2008

So all is not lost. I still firmly believe that time is best spent marketing the sites - but concede that we have to work harder to get the results.

Good to hear that biz is on the upswing.

I would agree, the best use of the bulk of your time is working on the content and marketing of your sites. Finding a time efficient process for handling those DMCA chores is still important but it can't be at the expense of working on your sites.

If you haven't already, check out the services of http://takedownpiracy.com/ they may be able to do much of the DMCA work for you at a fair enough price that you can focus on other things that make you money.
